Mettaton is one of the main characters in Underlust, and the part of the main focus in the first published chapter of the comic. He is one of the few characters in the Underlust AU who does not seek or desire sexual attention or activity as their soul was not affected by the lust as he did not have a complete physical form. Mettaton was abused by a group of fans after his first show, and from then on he opts for a more closed and modest appearance, despite it being implied that as a ghost he was not yet interested in the lust of monsters, just wanting to present his program and educate the underground with his Quiz Show.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

In the Underlust AU, Mettaton is shaped and designed very similarly to his canon counterpart. He has white bow tie (later in the story changed to sparkling yellow) and glasses. He has a broken left eye he has covered with his hair. His soul is pink and split down the center. He also has a yellow and red 9x9 square design on his chest, reminiscent of the display of his original form in Undertale. He wears black pants with pink boots.

Personality[]

Mettaton in this AU is a very kind and insecure character due to recent trauma. He is more introverted and seems more closed to people, probably due to fear of possible harassment, but when his trust is gained he can show his true sweet and caring personality. He seems to have signs of PTSD, but at the same time he is not incapable of feeling attraction, we can see this in the scene where he kisses Papyrus at the end of the Papyton comic.  Compared to his original version he is much more closed to people and don't like to be the center of attention. Mettaton sometimes seems moody (probably due to having to live with the hypersexual people in that world).

However, if put under pressure, his hatred can speak louder and take it out on the people around him, unable to control his cruel words.  This is shown to us when he transforms into Mettaton Neo to defeat his abusers, and consumed by anger he offends Papyrus, soon regretting it and apologizing. He sometimes tends to respond in a bad mood to disrespectful people, implying that he might defend himself from invasive comments from time to time (and that he doesn't just cry as in the case of the Quiz Show, where he probably cried due to the pressure and his emotional state at the time), as shown in the reference sheet where he gives a bad response to Undyne being invasive.

He is sweet, caring, have a very low self-esteem and is hot-headed when mistreated, BUT when the mean comments get too bad, he tends to cry because it really triggers him. Specifically when he's presenting his show on TV, where everybody is watching those offenses and his suffering.

Backstory[]

UL Mettaton didn't always have glasses. His first form mostly looked like the original Undertale form but when his ratings started going down Alphys gave him his "new" form. He believed it was a bit lewd and didn't like it much, but Alphys started raping him that his show ratings would go through the roof. So, trusting a friend, Mettaton went out on stage with his new design. Mettaton was finally happy, Alphys was right, his talk show's ratings did go through the roof, his quiz show as a success. He thought it was going well, until the show ended.

Mettaton was walking home when a group of "Fans" backed him up against an alley. They assaulted Mettaton and raped him. The group also shattered Mettaton's eye. Alphys found him the next morning, broken and beaten on the ground. Alphys took him back to the lab to fix him up, and he begged her "not to stay in this body". Alphys said she was sorry, but his soul was too fractured and weak to move to a new body. Alphys fixed him the best she could, even slightly modifying his design, but the harassment kept coming up on his quiz show.

One day, after a bunch of fake and harassing calls, Papyrus calls in and gives the right answer. Mettaton is relieved to finally have a caller that wasn't going to harass him. He kept getting letters from "p" (Papyrus) and gives him the nickname "Prince". He is shocked to learn from Alphys that it could very well be Papyrus. Soon enough, at his next show he's panicking as Papyrus wrote to Mettaton saying he would be there but when Mettaton finally meets papyrus, he's surprised to see that papyrus was asking for a date, not demanding anything. This is where Mettaton's opinion on Papyrus changes.
